Take Two | Intermediate

Level 2: The next step in your training, focused on your creative impulse, responsiveness and getting out of your head. Build instinct, presence and truthful connection.

Take Two is the next step for actors who are ready to go deeper

This 10-week course builds on the work developed in First Take and is designed for those who already have a basic understanding of acting for screen. We run three courses throughout the year, on Monday evenings, 7.30pm-9.30pm.

Here, the focus shifts from structure to spontaneity. You’ll explore impulse and emotional connection, learning to respond truthfully without relying on a script. The work becomes more instinctive and more personal, moving you closer to what it means to be fully present in performance.

You will be introduced to early Meisner-based repetition and ensemble work that sharpens your focus and deepens your ability to listen and respond in the moment.

This course is ideal for those who have completed First Take or who come with equivalent experience. It’s also the perfect preparation for Final Cut, our professional training programme.

Spaces are limited and early booking is recommended.

"Like many, the only actor training I had was at school and by the time I finished my first course with them I was itching for more! If you’re at all a tiny bit curious just jump in to a class and see where it leads as I couldn’t recommend these classes more!"

What to expect

Take Two is a 10-week evening course focused on deepening your instincts and sharpening your connection to the moment. Class sizes are kept small so that everyone has the space and support they need to take creative risks and grow.

You will spend most of the course working without a script, using improvisation and early Meisner-based exercises to develop presence, spontaneity and emotional truth. The emphasis is on real listening, truthful response and learning to work from impulse rather than planning.

The work is partner-based and practical. You will start to recognise when you're truly present, and what gets in the way. This is where actors begin to let go of habits and discover how to be open, responsive and alive in the moment.

There may be some use of the camera to support your learning, but this course is about developing your internal connection and building the responsiveness needed for advanced screen work later on.

Take Two is designed for students who have completed First Take or who already have a basic foundation in screen acting. It is a key part of the journey towards more advanced training, including our Final Cut programme.

FAQs

Am I too old to start acting classes?

Not at all. Our students range from their 20s to their 70s and beyond. Everyone comes with their own reason for joining—whether it's the start of a serious acting journey or something creative and sociable to explore.

How many people are in each class?

We keep our group sizes small, with a maximum of 14 students. This allows for individual attention and enough space for everyone to participate fully.

Do I need to complete First Take before doing this course?

Take Two is designed as the natural next step after First Take, so if you’ve completed that course, you’re in the right place. If you haven’t trained with us before but have some acting experience, you may still be eligible—get in touch and we’ll advise.

What kind of experience do I need to join Take Two?

You don’t need to be advanced, but this isn’t a beginner course. You should already be familiar with basic acting concepts like listening, making simple choices, and working with a scene partner. You’ll need to be open to taking creative risks and working without a script.

I’m feeling nervous about improvising. Is that normal?

Completely. Many actors feel nervous before stepping into improvisation for the first time. The structure of the course is designed to guide you gradually into this kind of work, and we create a supportive space where you can challenge yourself without pressure.

Will we use scripts in this course?

Not often. Take Two focuses on unscripted work—learning to respond truthfully and instinctively in the moment. This prepares you for more advanced scene and camera work in Final Cut.

Is there any camera work involved?

There may be occasional use of the camera to support your learning, but this is not a weekly feature. The main focus is on building your internal responsiveness and presence. Any camera work is for in-class use only, and will never be shown without your permission.

How many people are in the class?

We keep the group small, with a maximum of 14 students. This allows for individual attention and a focused working environment.

What happens after Take Two?

Many students apply for Final Cut, our six-month professional screen acting programme. Others continue with Green Room, our ongoing training space for actors at all levels.

Can I join Take Two if I trained somewhere else?

Yes, in some cases. If you’ve trained elsewhere and have a good grasp of the basics, we’d love to hear from you. We may ask for a short conversation or self-tape to check that Take Two is the right fit for your next step.
